Moderna expects safety from its COVID-19 vaccine for a minimum of a 12 months – CBS Pittsburgh
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – Overnight, Moderna released some promising results for their COVID-19 vaccine related to how long it will protect people.
We learned this morning that the Moderna vaccine should prevent you from contracting COVID-19 for at least a year.
According to Moderna’s chief medical officer, there is a possibility that a third shot will be required. Therefore, the company needs to test the employees to see if the booster extends protection.

Currently, the vaccine is given in two doses about a month apart and is 94% effective about two weeks after the second shot.
Since the vaccine is still so new, there is still so much to learn, according to Moderna.
However, company executives believe a third booster shot might work, especially for people who are at higher risk of developing the virus.
Moderna also announced three new development programs for other deadly diseases.
