The Kansas City Chiefs, who were running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire, suffered an ugly-looking lower body injury and were bailed off the field late Sunday against the New Orleans Saints.
The Chief’s rookie sustained the injury on a first down run late in the fourth quarter. It’s hard to tell from the video what happened when Edwards-Helaire was tackled in a heap. But he was in obvious pain and struggled to move after the game ended.
Edwards-Helaire needed help in the locker room
He could not put weight on his left leg and had to be helped off the field by members of the Chiefs’ training staff.
The Chiefs said it was doubtful to return with a leg / hip injury. He didn’t return to the game, which Kansas City won 32-29.
After the game, head coach Andy Reid told reporters that Edwards-Helaire “fell into a split”. He had x-rays that were negative. The team will continue to evaluate him.
If Edwards-Helaire misses the time, the Chiefs will rely on Le’Veon Bell as their main defender after picking up the former New York Jets and Pittsburgh Steelers in the mid-season.
Kansas City improved to 13-1 with the win to keep their lead on the number 1 in the AFC playoffs.
