Shot by McKeesport law enforcement officials; The seek for suspects continues

McKEESPORT, PA – The manhunt for the suspect continues after a McKeesport police officer was shot dead on Sunday. Koby Lee Francis, 22, from McKeesport is considered armed and dangerous.
The officer’s 32-year-old Gerasimos Athans is in stable condition in an area trauma center, according to Allegheny County police. The force’s four-year veteran is expected to be discharged from the hospital in the next day or two.
According to police, Francis entered the McKeesport Police Station on Sunday afternoon, where he was treated with an abuse warrant, and then left. About an hour later, police responded to a reported abuse code breach in 1505 Yester Square. They found Francis sitting in a vehicle outside the residence, in violation of regulation.

Police took a gun from the vehicle and took Francis into custody. He was combative and stepped out the window of the police car on the way to the train station, police said. When the officer opened the vehicle door upon arrival at the station, Francis shot the officer three times in the neck and upper body with a second weapon.
Videos recorded moments later showed Francis escaping on foot, still handcuffed.

Police say Francis will be charged with attempted murder, escape, escape to avoid concern, aggravated assault and violation of the Uniform Firearms Act.
McKeesport and county police officers are assisted in their investigations and searches by the Allegheny County Sheriff’s Office, the Pennsylvania State Police, the Attorney General, the Pittsburgh Bureau of Police, the Federal Bureau of Alcohol, Firearms, Tobacco and Explosives, and the US Marshal’s Office.
