Aaron Donald of the NFL is accused of attacking the Pittsburgh Membership
PITTSBURGH (AP) – A lawyer and his 26-year-old client told Pittsburgh police on Wednesday that Los Angeles Rams defense attorney Aaron Donald and others attacked the man at a nightclub last weekend, causing multiple injuries
Attorney Todd J. Hollis said his client, De’Vincent Spriggs, took 16 stitches and had a broken head orbital bone, broken nose and sprained or broken arm in a bar on East Carson Street on the city’s South Side.
“We believe there was a misunderstanding that Mr. Spriggs encountered Mr. Donald and that Mr. Donald escalated the matter, which led to the attack on my client a moment later,” Hollis said.
Hollis said Spriggs, who lives in another state, was taken to hospital for treatment by a friend. The alleged attack occurred at 3 a.m. on Sunday, he said. Hollis posted a photo showing Spriggs with facial injuries and swelling.
Hollis and Spriggs filed a criminal complaint with the Pittsburgh police force on Wednesday.
“They have conducted a preliminary investigation and will investigate and contact us as soon as they have more information,” said Hollis.
Pittsburgh police have confirmed they are investigating an assault received on Wednesday. The police do not name suspects or accused unless charges are brought. The department said it will consult with prosecutors who will decide whether charges are warranted.
It wasn’t immediately clear how many other Spriggs had attacked him.
29-year-old Donald was named NFL Defensive Player of the Year by the Associated Press in February. For the third time he received the award. He played college football at the University of Pittsburgh.
The Los Angeles Rams issued a statement that the team was aware of reports about Donald and was gathering more information. The team declined to comment further.
A message asking for a comment was left with Donald’s longtime agent, Todd France.
