Alan J. Richards | Information, sports activities, jobs
Alan J. Richards, 76, of Jamestown, NY, passed away on Thursday, June 24, 2021 after a long illness at his home.
He was born on March 4, 1945 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to the late James A. and Elizabeth McMullen Richards.
Alan graduated from Shaler High School in Pittsburgh and received his bachelor’s degree from Geneva College, Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania.
He was a U.S. Army veteran serving during the Vietnam War from October 23, 1967 through October 22, 1970. His service time took him to the Republic of Vietnam from 1968-69.
Alan became a Certified Public Account in 1973 and was a self-employed healthcare financial advisor for the healthcare industry prior to retirement. He previously served as the chief financial officer at Charles Cole Hospital, now UPMC Cole Hospital, in Coudersport, Pennsylvania.
He will be remembered as a loving and caring husband, father and grandfather. If you’ve seen a smiling man at Chautauqua Lake, driving his 60 year old wooden boat, which he has been doing since he was 16. If you served in Vietnam 1968-69, Alan helped you get the supplies you needed from the QuarterMaster Corp. When a puppet or clown service visited your church between 1975 and 2000, Alan would help behind the scenes. If you received a Gideon Bible or received help from the Jamestown Resource Center, Alan was involved. If you needed care in Pennsylvania, Alan helped hospitals find federal funding to pay staff and other bills. If you were a Boy Scout in Glenshaw, Pennsylvania in the 1970s or 1980s, Alan helped build your Pinewood Derby car and helped you earn badges of merit. If you’ve visited the First Presbyterian Church of Pittsburgh, Memorial Park in Allison Park, Coudersport CMA Church, or the Busti Church of God in Jamestown, Alan was there and prayed with you. Alan really loved the Lord and his family with all his heart.
The survivors were his 53-year-old wife, Sharon A. Muench Richards, whom he married on December 23, 1967; two sons: Todd (Julie) Richards of Columbus, Ohio, and Bradly (Carrie) Richards of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; four grandchildren; Samuel, Noah, Emma, and Madison Richards, a sister; Marilyn (John) Cost from Pittsburgh; his great-aunt Jane, his brother-in-law Michael (Linda) Muench from Pittsburgh; and a sister-in-law, Nancy Richards of Gerry, NY
In addition to his parents, a brother, David Richards, preceded him in death.
A memorial service will be held at the Busti Church of God at a later date. Visits are not observed.
Instead of flowers, memorials can be made in Alan’s name to the Resource Center Memorial Program, 200 Dunham Ave., Jamestown, NY 14701.
