Amazon will get its Irish on: ‘Leap Yr’, ‘The Quiet Man’, ‘Sing Road’ and extra reveals to stream | leisure
Most of us won’t be growing pints in the pub this year, but thanks to Prime Video, which has loads of Irish yarn on tap and is ready to rise to meet you, you can binge your St. Paddy’s Day still get going.
The quiet man
John Wayne may have been Hollywood’s most famous cowboy, but in 1952 he has a different breed of filly than the retired Pittsburgh boxer who falls in love with fiery Maureen O’Hara during a visit to his Irish birthplace, Inisfree, to buy back the family farm.
Angela’s ashes
Stars Emily Watson and Robert Carlyle are great in this 1999 story based on Frank McCourt’s harrowing autobiography about growing up in Limerick before the war. It’s far from carefree (tragedy and poverty abound), but the top-notch performances make it worth a watch.
Leap year
According to Irish tradition, if a woman makes a proposal to her husband on February 29, also known as Leap Day, a woman must accept. And frankly, can anyone say no to charming Amy Adams as a brave American who travels to Dublin to do just that on this 2010 rom-com? We didn’t think so!

Another Dublin story! Dating from 2016 and set in 1985, this music-filled romance follows a sensitive teenager (Ferdia Walsh-Peelo) who forms a band in an attempt to win over the girl he falls in love with.
Float like a butterfly
Raised in rural Ireland and inspired by Muhammad Ali, a teenage girl (Hazel Doupe) tries to prove herself by stepping into the boxing ring while shattering the expectations – and opposites – of the men who surround her in a feel-good film from 2019 .
