Billy Porter returns the favor for the Andy Warhol Museum

“I grew up in Pittsburgh and the Warhol is in my blood,” said Billy Porter, who was holding court at his table at Bryant Park Grill on Monday night.

The actor co-hosted a gala fundraiser in New York for the Andy Warhol Museum, a cultural institution featured in his upcoming film.

“I went home this summer to direct my first feature film,” said Porter, who was dressed from head to toe in metallic. “It was originally called ‘what if,’ but Marvel – those sluts – stole our title. They have a TV show and so we had to change. ‘Anything is possible’ is currently the working title. So I shot it in Pittsburgh and there was a moment that I wanted to be in the Warhol, and in return for using the Warhol, they took me to all of this fable. “

The actor pointed to the lively dining room overlooking the winter village in Bryant Park as his co-host for the evening – artist Kaws, whose work will be on view at the Pittsburgh-based museum next year – discreetly in his banquet seat next to Shaniqwa. Jarvis slipped. Other artist guests were Lee Quiñones, José Parlá, Futura, Nicholas Party and Nona Faustine and Kennedy Yanko, who both donated works that were auctioned live during dinner. Photographer Renell Medrano and friend A $ AP Ferg also came out to show their support for the museum.

Before he sits at a table with his sister Mary Martha Ford and Anne Pasternak – director of the Brooklyn Museum, which will debut its exhibition “Andy Warhol: Revelation”, which is curated by the Warhol Museum’s chief curator, José Carlos Diaz, later this week accepts – Porter offered a preview of his film. It’s a coming-of-age romantic comedy “In the spirit of the old John Hughes movies, populated with what the world looks like today,” he said. “It’s about a black trans girl who is in senior high school. She gets a boyfriend, she falls in love, she goes to college and it’s over. It’s about trans joy. It’s time to tell another story. It’s about trans joy, and that’s an aspiration for many people. So the world has to see it. “

The story goes on

The film, starring Eva Reign and Abubakr Ali, will soon be released by Orion Pictures. “It’s done, honey – I’ll put the finishing touches on the bitch. We’re busy, but it’s in good shape, ”said Porter, who also released a new single“ Children ”and his memoir“ Unprotected ”last month. “Buy my book – write about my book, tell the bitches about my book!” He added.

Andy Warhol, himself a master of self-promotion, would be proud.
