PITTSBURGH, PA (WSAU) – The Milwaukee Brewers shared a one-two victory over the Pirates in Pittsburgh on Saturday.
The Pirates took game one, 14-4; the Brewers took the nightcap, 6-0.
Rookie Aaron Ashby worked five innings and scattered three hits in the Brewers win. He turned down four and went one. Brad Boxberger, who worked an inning in relief, was the winning pitcher.
The Brewers got a long home run from Rowdy Tellez. His two-run explosion put the game 5-0 out of reach.
In the first game, the Brewers failed to hold an early 3-run lead. The Pirates took over with a 4 run rally in the 3rd inning and counted 6 more runs in the 5th inning. Kevin Newman set a major league record with four doubles. The Pirates had an 8-game losing streak with the win.
The first-placed Brewers extended their lead in NL Central to 8 games over the Reds, who lost to the Phillies on Saturday.
The series ends with a CT game at 12:05 on Sunday.
