The fire was at McKeesport Auto Body on the 600 block off Rebecca Street. Elbow Room owner Juanita Findrick said it was around 5:30 p.m. when she heard what sounded like an explosion.
“That was when all the lights went out and we saw the power lines burn,” said Findrick.
Emergency management confirmed that high voltage cables fell on the building before the fire broke out.
According to the crews, the water pressure was a significant problem. KDKA’s Royce Jones saw tankers from across the Mon Valley and Westmoreland Counties hauling water to the crime scene.
The fire burned uncontrollably for several hours. At least one firefighter was taken to a local hospital.
