Dick’s Sporting Items opens new idea retailer at Polaris
Dick’s Sporting Goods is opening its new outdoor-oriented retail concept in its former Field & Stream store on Polaris Fashion Place, which closed in April.
The Public Lands store at 1510 Polaris Parkway will sell outdoor and lifestyle apparel, shoes and equipment brands. The store is slated to open in October.
The store will include a 9-meter-high cliff face, an in-store equipment repair and rental section, and specialized stores for outdoor activities such as biking, camping, fishing, paddling, skiing, climbing and hiking.
The concept will provide an enhanced customer service experience by relying on employees who are passionate about demonstrating their love for the outdoors and protecting public lands.
Public Lands expects to hire approximately 25 full-time and 70 part-time employees. The setting will continue until the end of the month.
Last December, former Dick’s Sporting Goods CEO Edward Stack said in a call with analysts that Dick’s is pulling out of the Field & Stream line and replacing some of those stores – starting with stores in Pittsburgh and Columbus – with the new concept.
“We believe that people have a real chance of going outside, camping, hiking, biking, kayaking, fishing. It will be different from what you would see with REI and tap into another niche, ”he said. “But we’re very excited about the research we’ve done on it. We believe the market offers a real opportunity and … this will help us from properties we already own that have the Field & Stream concept. “In.”
