Department of Health issues consumer warning for Silk Elephant in Squirrel Hill

The Allegheny County Health Department has issued a consumer alert for a restaurant in Pittsburgh’s Squirrel Hill neighborhood. The consumer alert was released on Monday for Silk Elephant on Murray Avenue. The health department listed the following violations: food in poor condition, improper refrigeration, inadequate refrigeration of food, improper storage of food that requires different cooking temperatures, inadequate cleaning and disinfection, inadequate hand washing options, inadequate pest control, and improper storage of a toxic object. The food safety assessment report said there were sauces and condiments on a shelf in the dry storage area that was right on top of mouse droppings and cockroach droppings.
