Today dozens of women gathered on the north coast for a photo shoot with the aim of creating awareness of the health issues of all expectant women, especially black women.

Studies show that black women die exponentially more often during pregnancy and childbirth.

“Black women in particular are two to three times more likely to die than white women,” said one of the organizers. “It’s a national crisis, an overly complex problem, but we have the resources and the technology to solve it.”

The event organizers said their goal is not just to raise awareness, but to save lives.
