Drivers Lifeless, Pennsylvania Turnpike shut down after truck drove into ravine close to Plum – WPXI

PLUM, Pennsylvania – At least one person was killed when a semi-trailer truck crashed on the Pennsylvania Turnpike Wednesday afternoon.

Rescue workers said it happened around 1:30 p.m. A semi-trailer truck drove through a guardrail and over a 25-foot embankment before landing in a ravine. The driver was killed and trapped in the truck.

A passenger was able to get out of the truck and go to a nearby store for help. This person was taken to Forbes Hospital in Monroeville. Her condition was initially unknown.

Officials said a dangerous goods situation had been reported at the accident site. The truck carried liquid nitrogen in a tank trailer.

The eastbound lanes are closed from the Harmarville to Monroeville exit and officials expect the closure to continue well into the evening.
