PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – Actress Elizabeth Banks speaks out in favor of a Stand Your Ground bill that was passed Thursday at Ohio House.
According to Cleveland.com, the bill must go through the Senate before it goes to Governor Mike DeWine’s desk.
If the bill were passed and incorporated into law, Ohio would be the 36th state to have no withdrawal obligation before the use of force.
After the bill passed, Elizabeth Banks posted a comment on the matter on Twitter.
Stand Your Ground is BS. We played hide and seek all over the neighborhood on summer nights. The intention was to play. We were kids but some of my cousins were big boys / 1 https://t.co/zD3hOG4Tgt

Suddenly an arrow was shot into the tree behind which we were hiding. From a professional bow and arrow. This guy wasn’t yelling “who’s there” or “get off my property or I’ll call the police” or any other question or warning. / 3

Sometimes our dog broke loose too. We went into the courtyards and looked for them. All I can think of when people pretend Stand Your Ground is anything other than permission to kill people are those moments when I myself stepped on a neighbor’s property / 5

If I had been shot while hiding, would this new neighbor have only shrugged his shoulders while living across from my grieving parents? With such laws, probably yes. / 7

Your last comment ended the thread saying:
“I don’t want to live in a world where we fear our neighbors so much that we can’t freely lose a ball / dog / frisbee or cut someone through the garden to avoid nuisance – all I’ve done. Which courtyards did you wander to and why? “
It is unclear when the Ohio Senate will vote on the bill.
