Elsa spent the final three Christmas in a shelter. Now she has lastly discovered her dwelling eternally

This year it was Elsa’s third Christmas at the Pet Friends shelter in Pittsburgh. The lovable shepherd mix spent the past few years at the shelter without an application for adoption before a Christmas Eve special on a local news channel helped Elsa find her at home forever.

Before Elsa arrived at the shelter, she spent the first five years of her life neglected in an outdoor cage with little warmth or shelter. After she was taken to the Pittsburgh shelter in November 2018, Pet Friends staff and volunteers worked hard to help the precious pup overcome fears and learn to trust people again.

But years went by and no one applied to adopt Elsa. Hoping to help her finally find a loving family of her own, Pet Friends teamed up with a local news channel to tell the heartbreaking story of their furry friend this holiday season. Toni Youkin, a Pet Friends volunteer, told local reporters that Elsa’s adoption after so long at the shelter would be a “Christmas miracle” – and that the Christmas miracle came true.

After Elsa’s story was broadcast on WTAE’s Christmas Eve programming, the adoption requests came into play. Just two days after Christmas, Pet Friends posted an update on social media. Elsa has finally been adopted and will spend the New Year in her home forever.

Elsa is fortunate to have finally found her own family, and she is fortunate to have been saved from the harsh conditions in which she was found. Cold weather can be extremely dangerous to dogs, and knowing how to keep your pup safe is important.
