Pittsburgh’s Action News 4 first introduced Edgar Alvarez to viewers during Hispanic Heritage Month. His business in the Strip District thrived because it brought the best tacos to Pittsburgh, but now he’s said his business is suffering because police say former Pittsburgh Steelers player Louie Lipps crashed into a food truck while driving while under the influence.

Edgar Alvarez, the owner of Edgar’s Best Tacos, said he was shocked that his food truck was destroyed, forcing him to cancel upcoming events.

He said, “I never imagine this would happen to me, how wow.”

Police said Saturday that Lipps was driving under the influence of about three times the legal limit and crashed a pickup truck into the trailer on Ruth Street on Mount Washington.

Alvarez said, “I hear that sound and then my dogs start barking.”

Then he got a call from a neighbor.

Alvarez said, “She said to me, ‘Edgar, you’d better get out, someone hit your truck.’ I said, ‘What ?! I said no. So I’ll just jump out of my bed like crazy and come out. “

Alvarez’s heart fell when he saw the consequences. He said Lipps was cooperative and nice, but didn’t know he was talking to someone who was about to be inducted into the Pittsburgh Steelers Hall of Honor.

“I found out after I saw the news,” Alvarez said.

Alvarez is working with insurance companies to cover the trailer, but he may not get any help for the lost jobs.

He said, “I asked them who was going to pay for this because I was losing at least $ 3,000 on these three events and they told me we didn’t know about it.”

“We have to be positive because there is nothing else we can do,” said Alvarez.

Alvarez said he was planning to take a break from what happened and visit his family in Mexico.
