MONESSEN (KDKA) – The US Department of Agriculture’s Farmers to Families program brings produce and other groceries to Monessen.
Thanks to the efforts of a group of volunteers, families are provided with fresh meat, produce and dairy products.
“We are very excited about this distribution and are blessed to have this opportunity,” said Mayor Matthew Shorraw. “This will be a way to fill in the existing gaps and add to what other food banks and distributors are already doing. With this distribution we can not only help people in Monessen, but also in the immediate vicinity. “
Starting Friday, February 5, an 18-wheel truck will bring 1,100 boxes of fresh groceries to the Herman Mihalich River Launch Park from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. to distribute the groceries as available.
The boxes are provided free of charge and the program continues at the same time each week through April.
