If you want a taste and a touch of Greece but are in the Pittsburgh area, head straight to the EVIA Greek restaurant in the adjacent Bellevue, where owner Chris Balouris says, “Our goal is to make a tavern in Pittsburghers Transporting Greece “without going there, reports Next Pittsburgh.

It’s only been open a few months but this family knows their business, they ran a restaurant on the same street from 1957-95 and named their new location from the great Greek island 90 minutes north of Athens.

“We know Greek food,” says Balouris, who grew up in Bellevue. “We travel to Greece every year to visit our relatives and our trips will help us keep our finger on the pulse of the market and bring that influence back to our restaurant,” he said.

The family also owns Salonika Imports in Lawrenceville, which brings in products such as olive oil, olives, feta cheese and pasta direct from Greece.

The menu features staples of the Mediterranean diet like dolmades, pastitsio, and spanakopita, as well as some family recipes that cannot be found anywhere else in Pittsburgh, including avgolemono.
