Flip the MINDHUNTER jail into your horror home

Every now and then there is a great chance of owning entertainment history. People have paid millions (or sometimes thousands) to live in sitcom and horror movie houses. Or maybe they turn them into wedding venues like Stu Macher’s house from Scream. If you have a few thousand dollars lying around and want to own a very large building with an interesting story that could be your own horror then look no further. As we learned from Boing Boing, there is an abandoned state correctional facility for sale in Pittsburgh. And it looks bloody scary.

The State Correctional Institution of Pittsburgh is an 20.2-acre facility that is for sale, including the overseer’s home. According to Penn Live, a couple are willing to buy the overseer’s home for just $ 140,000, but the state senate wants to get their hands on this expensive property. The costs for the entire facility have not yet been determined. There will eventually be a process in which people can submit competitive bids to secure them.

Abandoned headquarters

But it costs Pennsylvania a whopping $ 600 to wait each year, even though the facility closed back in 2017. The state hopes to get funding to fix soil and asbestos problems to make them “more attractive to buyers”. Of course, those who score points with this property still have to clean up a lot. Or maybe not. Maybe they can lay it to rubble and run a full-time haunted horror place. Everything is possible.

Shaunwave films

Here’s the interesting historical part. First, its history dates back to 1882. That alone screams “Ghosts and ghosts probably roam these halls”. But if that’s not cool enough, keep this in mind. The State Correctional Institution of Pittsburgh is a location in some shows / films, including Mindhunter. Anyone who knows Mindhunter knows the Salem Oregon State Penitentiary. So there is that extra aspect if you want to convince (maybe lure?) People. Collect your many, many coins and get ready to claim your new property.
