Gas prices in the Pittsburgh area are rising rapidly. AAA reports that the average price for a gallon of regular unleaded product is $ 3.04, up 9 cents from a week ago when the average price was $ 2.95. A year ago, the average price in Pittsburgh was $ 2.57. Pittsburgh’s Action News 4 photojournalist observed many local gas prices at $ 3.09 early Monday morning. The national average is $ 2.77 and the Pennsylvania average is $ 3.00. The AAA said last week that higher pump prices were caused in part by rising crude oil prices and tightening gas supplies and increased demand.
