BALDWIN (KDKA) – There was reason to celebrate in Baldwin on Thursday when the community and university ice hockey team celebrated their state championship.

The marching band and cheerleaders greeted the team when they returned to town.

The Highlanders celebrated their Penguins Cup victory last month, which earned them a ticket to the Philadelphia area winner of the State Championship.

Baldwin won, secured the AA title, and ended a 21-1 season.

“It feels great, we tried to get that win last year and we finally did it this year. It’s just an unreal feeling and it just can’t keep up,” said team captain Keith Reed.

“It was pretty cool to go to school with the band and the cheerleaders. It’s nice to have breakfast and to be recognized by the school for achieving what we did,” said Eddie Nowicki, the team goalkeeper. “Overall, it’s great to know that the school values ​​your work.”

The Highlanders were on a similar path last season, but the year was cut short due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
