US News and World Report ranked GW 63rd in last year’s ranking of higher education institutions.
GW rose 10 spots to No. 61 in Forbes’ annual “America’s Top Colleges” ranking, which the magazine released on Tuesday.
GW has gradually climbed the Forbes college rankings in recent years, including as it rose from 78th in the country in 2019 to 71st in 2021. Forbes determines each university’s ranks based on metrics such as alumni salaries and debt, graduation rates, return on investment, retention rate, academic success, and the number of people that make Forbes American Leaders List such as the Forbes 30 under 30.
GW is also ranked as a #42 private college and #50 research university.
US News and World Report ranked GW 63rd in last year’s ranking of higher education institutions.
Half of GW’s 12 peer institutions rank above the university on the Forbes list, including the University of Southern California, Boston, New York, Tufts, Wake Forest and Georgetown University. The University of Miami, University of Pittsburgh, University of Rochester, Northeastern University, Syracuse University and Tulane University all ranked below GW in this year’s list.
Forbes “ranks” US colleges and universities based on their financial security by examining a range of statistics, including wealth levels, expenses, number of students and endowment. Forbes gave GW a “B-” grade with a financial GPA of 2.76 in a list released last week.
In 2021, the university had a “B” grade with a financial GPA of 2.87, indicating that GW’s financial position has deteriorated as it emerged from the COVID-19 pandemic.
