Barrel & Flow Fest celebrates black brewers
The Barrel & Flow Fest, a celebration of black beer makers and culture, takes place September 10-12 at SouthSide Works.
The event formerly known as Fresh Fest is a mix of in-person and online events. Visitors can expect unique beers and a diverse range of art and entertainment on four stages. Headliners include Grammy-winning, funky Ghost Note and Benji, a multi-instrumentalist, rapper, and singer-songwriter from Pittsburgh.
The kick-off event on Friday offers conferences and symposia from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the Greentree DoubleTree. All content is streamed live for Digi Flow, the festival’s digital component. Ticket sales begin on July 10th. A pack of 16 beers representing 32 breweries will be available from Tavour in August and will be shipped in time for Digi Flow.
VIPs enjoy an exclusive beer collection along with a catering lunch on Saturday at SouthSide Works and entry to the Sunday Brewers Brunch at Greentree DoubleTree from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
More than 150 beer, food and craft vendors will be lined up at SouthSide Works for the festival. Early bird admission starts at 3:00 p.m. and regular admission starts at 5:00 p.m. The event lasts until 9:00 p.m.
Even after the festival is over, the organizers of Barrel & Flow Black Arts will continue to run their year-long art + biz initiative, which brings creative people together with small business owners. Also, look for an updated Barrel & Flow app that includes an international Black Brewery directory and marketplace.
Win a trip to Mexico
Jarritos Mexican Soda and Duolingo from Pittsburgh, the world’s largest language learning app, are giving away free Spanish lessons and a trip to Mexico.
Anyone in the United States aged 18 and over with a valid passport can win a free three-month Duolingo Plus subscription and four-day vacation for two to Mexico including flights, accommodation and a travel grant.

The closing date for entries is July 20th.
Companies will select 100 winners for the Duolingo Plus subscription and one contestant to win a trip south of the border to practice their new language skills.
Allegheny Commons Park is getting a makeover
The first phase of the North Promenade Rehabilitation Project at Allegheny Commons Park on the North Side is complete and the Pittsburgh Parks Conservancy is ready to celebrate. A community festival and inauguration ceremony will take place on July 20 at 6 p.m.
The event, which is free and public, includes commentary from local guides, live music, strollers, food stalls, and activities for people of all ages.
