PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – Heinz leads ketchup into the future, introducing a new blend that uses tomatoes grown like they were on Mars!
Heinz says they worked with fourteen astrobiologists at the Aldrin Space Institute in Florida for two years to create a controlled environment.
They reproduced the soil, temperature, and water conditions similar to those found on Mars, and then planted a whole range of tomatoes.
The result? “Marz” tomatoes. The researchers and Heinz say the experiment shows the possibility of long-term food production when people live on another planet.
The end product is tasted by the research team and a former NASA astronaut. It is not being sold.
