PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – The Better Business Bureau says scammers are taking advantage of the pandemic, especially phone scammers who pretend to be who they are not.
The BBB says they have seen a surge in scam scams in western Pennsylvania.
Here the scammer pretends to be a friend, family member, or someone calling from a government agency.
Scammers even pretend to be able to enroll people in the COVID-19 funeral aid program.
Here are three tips to avoid fraud:
- Never give out your Social Security or Medicare number.
- A real government agency doesn’t ask you to pay a processing fee, especially through gift cards.
- When you get a call from someone who says they are a friend or family member who is having trouble needing money, hang up and call the person you know.
