I-579 Daylight ramp closings start in Pittsburgh

Pittsburgh, PA – PennDOT District 11 announces the closure of the daylight ramp for the I-579 “Cap” Urban Connector project in the city of Pittsburgh, Allegheny County, which will begin on Monday, May 10th, weather permitting.

It will be closed on weekdays from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. until mid-June on the following ramps:

The crews carry out the installation of the luminaire and the additional work on the box beams. So that this work can take place, the ramp traffic will be diverted as required.

The $ 29.34 million project, sponsored by the City of Pittsburgh and the Sports and Exhibitions Authority, consists of building a structure over I-579 that connects downtown Pittsburgh to the Hill District. In part, the Cap project will create a new three-hectare green space that includes pedestrian paths, bicycle routes, rain gardens for rainwater management and design elements by artists from the neighborhood. Additional construction activities include retrofitting existing retaining walls and bridges to accommodate the new structure, rebuilding roads, improving drainage, traffic signals, highway lighting, ITS and landscaping.
