PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – Big Brothers Big Sisters from the greater Pittsburgh area recently received a US $ 25,000 scholarship.
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Pittsburgh is a nonprofit that cares for young children in underserved communities.
The nonprofit says Dan Jenkins, a longtime volunteer, was named one of Northwestern Mutual’s Most Exceptional 2021 Community Service Award winners. The award that Jenkins won included the $ 25,000 scholarship he presented to the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Pittsburgh earlier this month.

“This year, the COVID-19 pandemic has exacerbated the anxiety and stress that children are already experiencing on a daily basis,” Jenkins said. “The money from this scholarship will be used to enroll teens on mentoring programs from the ever-growing waiting list, recruit and train new volunteers, host mentoring matches, and support those relationships over time here in Pittsburgh.”
