Las Vegas Raiders Opponent Preview: Pittsburgh Steelers
Sports Illustrated’s Raider Maven continues to go behind enemy lines and get the latest info on the Las Vegas Raiders’ upcoming opponents for the 2021 NFL season straight from the source that covers it.
The Raiders’ first street game will take place in Week 2, when they fly to Pittsburgh to take on the Steelers.
Noah Strackbein, the editor of Sports Illustrated’s All Steelers, recently joined the editor and publisher of Sports Illustrated Raider Mavens and publisher Hondo Carpenter on the radio.
Carpenter hosted the morning show “Pritch & Clay” together with Clay Baker Raider Nation Radio (LINK TO LIVE LISTENING).
“I think it all starts with the offensive schedule. Last year Matt Canada, who was the quarterback coach at the time, now had the offensive coordinator, he had a lot to say in the first seven or eight weeks of the season and you’ve seen some Things like jet sweeps and a lot of exercise, and all of that just went away and nobody really knows why, “Strackbein said of the collapse of the Steelers offensive last season.
Even if it doesn’t look like it Ben Roethlisbergers Last year in the NFL, the Steelers don’t have a stable backup plan with the quarterback, and all indications are that Roethlisberger will stick with it until they have his replacement.
“It resulted in a total breakdown in offense and if you don’t let the ball go, if you’re just throwing the ball in RPOs, you’re not going to achieve much and this year it will bounce back.” , it all starts with Matt Canada and a brand new offensive, “said Strackbein.
In the first round, the Steelers pulled in the running back of Najee Harris from Alabama, which many believe to be the missing piece on the Steelers’ offensive.
The defense has continuity, with outside linebacker TJ Watt behind him a season in which he was named AFC Defensive Player of the Year and defensive end Cam Hayward made the Pro Bowl for a fourth time.
Watt and Heyward can devastate any offensive line.
The Steelers have players like Antoine Brooks Jr., a former six-round pick from Maryland. A year ago the coaches believed he could only play on safety. This year his versatility has allowed him to play safety and nickel where the Steelers want him to be most likely.
The Steelers organization is probably one of the best in the NFL. They have ownership stability and Mike Tomlin is arguably the NFL’s most underrated head coach.
Tomlin has the Steelers fighting for the division and the Super Bowl practically every year.
According to Strackbein, the Steelers can potentially end the season on a 9-8 record after facing the most demanding schedule in the NFL. If something goes wrong, the whole season will be bad.
The upper limit for the Steelers is to win 12 or 13 games that season and win the AFC North Championship.
If the Raiders defenses turn things around early and prevail against the Steelers’ fighting offensive, Silver and Black could claim massive victory on the road.
If the Raiders get back to their old ways on the road, it should be an easy win for the Steelers at home.
