PITTSBURGH – MacKenzie Scott, the multi-billion dollar philanthropist best known for her multi-billion dollar spontaneous donations to charities and racial justice, announced Tuesday that she had donated $ 2.7 billion to 286 organizations.
One of the organizations that has received money is the Advancing Black Arts in Pittsburgh Fund.
This is the third round of significant philanthropic donations Scott has made, competing along with charitable donations from the largest foundations. In her announcement, she made it clear that she is concerned about the increasing concentration of huge fortunes in a small segment of individuals. She and her husband Dan Jewett worked with a team of researchers and philanthropy advisors “to give away a fortune made possible by systems that require change.”
Scott is the ex-wife of Amazon founder Jeff Bezos.
