MLB recap: Trea Turner holds cycle file for Nationals Roll
2021-07-01 03:54:44 GMT + 00: 00 – Trea Turner went 4 for 4, scoring for the third time in his career for the cycle, to beat the Washington Nationals in a 15-6 win over Tampa Bay Rays on Wednesday.
Turner’s triple in the sixth inning of Michael Wacha made him the fourth player in the modern era of the Major Leagues (since 1900) to complete three career cycles. Adrian Beltre, Bob Meusel and Babe Herman accomplished the feat in front of Turner, who celebrated his 28th birthday on Wednesday.
While diving into third base for his triple, Turner pinched his left pinky and he got out for a pinch hitter an inning later. It is listed as day by day.
Washington’s Juan Soto went 3-for-5 with two RBIs and Josh Bell went 2-for-3 with three RBIs. Soto was substituted on defensive in ninth place after being seen grabbing his left hamstring area after his final at-bat.
Cardinals 7, Diamondbacks 4
Pitcher Kwang Hyun Kim scored a double with two runs and also took the win when St. Louis defeated the visiting guest in Arizona and completed a three-game sweep.
Kim (2-5) allowed a run with three hits over five innings with three walks and five strikeouts. Alex Reyes threw a goalless ninth inning for his 20th save in 20 occasions. Tyler O’Neill and Paul Goldschmidt each had two doubles among their three hits for the Cardinals.
Riley Smith (1-4) allowed four runs with seven hits in three innings for the Diamondbacks, who ended June with a 3-24 record.
Brewer 15, young 7
Milwaukee was seven runs down at home before stepping on the plate. It didn’t seem to matter as the Brewers scored 14 of their own goals over the next four innings and swept Chicago.
The Brewers scored one in the bottom of the first frame, five in the second, and eight in the fourth en route to sending the Cubs to their sixth straight loss.
Milwaukee, which has won eight straight wins, chased Chicago starter Jake Arrieta in the second after pulling within a run.
Rockies 6, Pirates 2
CJ Cron homered, Garrett Hampson had four hits and hosts Colorado beat Pittsburgh.
Brendan Rodgers had two hits and Raimel Tapia scored twice, stealing a base for the Rockies who swept the three-game series from the Pirates.
Bryan Reynolds homered and had two hits and Adam Frazier also had two hits for Pittsburgh, which only made 12 hits on the series.
