Mom’s Day weekend shall be stuffed with rain – CBS Pittsburgh
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – Good morning, we finally had a dry day on Thursday this week!
Today is rain again with the best chance of rain in the morning hours. I can’t rule out light rain and drizzle in some spots for the afternoon, but I don’t think anything we see after 1:00 p.m. today will be measurable precipitation.

Behind the rain we get another shot of cold air, so today’s highs are probably more than 15 degrees cooler than the average for this time of year. I have Pittsburgh beating about 10 miles an hour for today’s high 54 with afternoon winds from the northwest.

I have mostly cloudy skies after 6pm tonight.
The total rainfall today should be less than a quarter of an inch.
The hardest part of forecasting for next week happens on Saturday.
The atmosphere will remain unstable all weekend. I know we’ll see a couple of laps of rain rolling through overnight and before sunrise on Saturday for western Pennsylvania. I really expect bags of light drizzle to develop as the day progresses. The rain totals are unlikely to be very high. I expect only an inch for the day.
While the amount of rainfall won’t be impressive, drizzle and light showers make for a bleak and chilly day that families will likely want to stay indoors, where it’s warm and dry.

Saturday highs will also be in the mid-50s, with wake-up temperatures in the 30s.
Sunday is the day we could see some big rains.
I think most parishes from Pittsburgh in the south to Morgantown will have a solid chance of seeing more than an inch of rain on average. The rain will spread throughout the day which should help alleviate some flooding problems.
There may be isolated places where significantly more rain falls in a relatively short time, so that in certain places flooding is still possible. The fact that the soil will be quite saturated by this point will not help.

The probability of a flood watch being seen in the area is, in my opinion, in the moderate range for the day.
I wish I had better news for all of these mothers out there for their day. Sunday highs won’t be until the mid-50s with morning temperatures close to 40.
High temperatures remain until Tuesday in the 50s.
