Native 26-year-old girl is spending Christmas on oxygen battling COVID-19 – CBS Pittsburgh
JEANNETTE, PA (KDKA) – It’s Christmas Day when families usually gather to celebrate, but similar to 2020, this holiday looks different for most people.
“Usually it’s my sister, my brother-in-law, my parents. We have dinner together like pasta on Christmas Eve because I’m Italian, ”said Sarah Casario.
Casario is 26 years old and this Christmas is in the oxygen battle against COVID-19 at AHN’s Hempfield Hospital.
“I got symptoms, fever, chills, nausea, basically every COVID symptom there is. Everyone likes to say it’s like the flu, but I promise it isn’t. It’s ten times worse, ”said Casario.
With no basic conditions and no idea where she got infected with the virus, she stays strong for her family.
“My mom works on COVID patients, she’s a good abstracter so she knows what’s going on and that’s all she’s working on, are COVID positive people. She’s having a hard time seeing me through something she’s so familiar with. It gets your family through a lot, ”said Casario.
Video calls and window visits are the new traditions for her family. In pursuit of a full recovery, this virus taught Casario a lot.
“Just don’t think that you won’t be because that’s how I felt like I never will be, it won’t happen to me and it did and it’s the worst I’ve ever felt in my life and…” it’s serious business, ‘said Casario.
Casario told KDKA she will be in the hospital for five days and hopes to be released early next week.
