LIBERTY – Ava Wolesky, an aspiring senior at Liberty North High School, placed in the top four of the Jimmy Awards for Best Actress Performance. Her Starlight Blue Star Awards counterpart Justin Cooley joined her in the top four.
The Jimmy Awards are the name given to the awards officially known as the National High School Musical Theater Awards. NHSMTA is a joint project of the Broadway League, the Nederlander Group and the Pittsburgh Civic Light Orchestra.
Wolesky and Cooley were among 72 nominees from 36 regions of the United States.
Wolesky has been playing in regional and educational theater productions since she was eight. She is the winner of the Blue Star Awards 2020 for Outstanding Actress in a Leading Role.
“This is well deserved recognition for Ava and Justin,” said Alex Jones, vice president of community engagement for Starlight. “Her performances were off the charts and it was wonderful to see the two Starlight Blue Star Awards winners represent Kansas City and the Jimmy Awards finalists.”
For their placement, Wolesky received a $ 3,000 scholarship.
