Nearly $ three million in scholar loans for college kids who’ve attended the Brightwood Profession Institute – CBS Pittsburgh

HARRISBURG, PA (KDKA) – The Pennsylvania Attorney General announced that nearly $ 3 million in student loan debt will be wiped out.

Josh Shapiro said he had an agreement with the now-defunct Education Corporation of America to cancel $ 2.6 million in private loans for 1,300 students. The company operated five former Brightwood Career Institute locations in the state, including one in Pittsburgh.

“When the Education Corporation of America closed, thousands of Pennsylvanians had no degrees and a tremendous financial burden. Today we reached an agreement and canceled multi-million dollar debts for Pennsylvanians, “Attorney General Shapiro said in a press release. “Student loan debt is a life-changing hurdle for far too many in our Commonwealth, which is why we struggle for borrowers every day.”

Shapiro said borrowers affected by the settlement will be contacted directly from his office. These borrowers do not need to take any steps to get a refund or have the debt canceled.
