WEST MIFFLIN, PA. – Spring is only a few weeks away, which means it won’t be long before Kennywood and Sandcastle welcome guests and team members back.

This year promises to be better times for those looking for fun than last year’s roller coaster. Kennywood will begin its 83rd season on May 8th, two months earlier than 2020 and much closer to a traditional opening day. Sandcastle opens its pools and waterslides for Memorial Day weekend on May 29th.

Along with extending schedules to include pre-COVID, the best new roller coaster of 2019, the Steel Curtain, will be back in action after last summer’s downtime, as will Kennywood’s largest non-roller coaster, Black Widow. There will also be a new series of special events in Kennywood.

The Bites & Pints Food Festival offers a special menu of food and drink for tastings on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays in June. Other favorite perennial events are returning to the calendar, including the Father’s Day Flop in Sandcastle, School Picnic Days in Kennywood, and the 71st edition of Fall Fantasy Parades with local marching bands.

Kennywood and Sandcastle are looking to hire 1,500 seasonal team members for departments such as lifeguards, rides, food and beverage, games and retail, grounds and public safety to bring Pittsburgh’s family fun centers to life.

The flexible positions offer part-time or full-time opportunities for high school and college students, professionals looking for a change of pace, and retirees interested in supplementing their income and staying active.

“We have opportunities that are ideal for all career levels.” says Joe Barron, HR director for Kennywood and Sandcastle. “So many young people start their careers thanks to the hands-on experience they gain, and it’s a great way for seniors to keep in touch too.”

Both parks will continue their commitment to the health and safety of guests and team members by following recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the Pennsylvania Department of Health, and best practices in the amusement and attraction industry.

Face-to-face interviews and orientations are conducted with face covering, social distancing, and strict adherence to indoor capacity restrictions. Team members who have returned from previous years can take part in online orientations.

Employment at Kennywood and Sandcastle brings benefits such as flexible planning, free entry to local and regional amusement parks, team building activities such as movie nights, and discounts on park food and merchandise. Kennywood and Sandcastle also give Teamglut 10 college scholarships annually that go way beyond that in the community and in the classroom.

Most of the seasonal positions in Kennywood and Sandcastle are available to applicants aged 16 and over. Some vacancies are available to people aged 14-15. Information and an online application can be found on the Kennywood or Sandcastle employment pages.
