NHL recap: Auston Matthews’ hat trick takes Leafs previous Avs
12/02/2021 07:07:16 GMT + 00: 00 – Auston Matthews scored three goals, John Tavares had one goal and two assists and the Toronto Maple Leafs defeated visiting Colorado Avalanche 8-3 on Wednesday.
The hat trick was the fourth in Matthews’ career. William Nylander had one goal and one assist for Toronto, who have won five straight times.
Jason Spezza, Travis Dermott and Pierre Engvall also scored for the Maple Leafs. Michael Bunting added three assists and Alexander Kerfoot and Mitchell Marner each had two assists. Jack Campbell made 28 parades for Toronto.

Nazem Kadri scored twice and Samuel Girard also scored for the Avalanche. Colorado’s Jonas Johansson stopped 33 shots.
Ducks 6, Golden Knights 5
Jamie Drysdale had one goal and one assist and Trevor Zegras and Sonny Milano each had three assists to lead hosts Anaheim to a wild win over Vegas.
Troy Terry, Rickard Rakell, Josh Manson, Hampus Lindholm and Isac Lundestrom also scored goals for Anaheim, who won 5-4 on penalties in Los Angeles the night before. Ducks goalkeeper Anthony Stolarz finished with 34 saves.

Connor McDavid made three assists, two on goals from Zach Hyman, and added a blank goal when Edmonton broke open a draw in the third period for a win over the visitors in Pittsburgh.
In the 2-2 draw after two periods, Kailer Yamamoto scored 2:53 in the third round. Evan Bouchard tipped a two-on-one into McDavid’s pass-off a little over five minutes later to help the Oilers win for the 16th time in 21 opener games.

Morgan Frost scored for the Flyers, who lost their seventh straight game. Philadelphia also lost Joel Farabee to an upper body injury after banging the boards in the opening stages. Carter Hart stopped 24 shots.
