PITTSBURGH — Pittsburgh Mayor Bill Peduto’s new “Dark Sky Lighting” ordinance aims to let you see more of the stars in the night sky.

According to our partners at TribLive.com, Peduto announced the new legislation on Tuesday for all city parks, facilities and street lights. It will be discussed at another meeting next week and could be voted on by early September.

The ordinance means the city will follow new principles for new or retrofitted streetlights, park spaces, playgrounds and city-owned buildings.

Officials with the International Dark-Sky Association said Pittsburgh was the first city to take this approach.
