A look at what is happening around the majors on Sunday:
JD Martinez, Kiké Hernandez and the Boston Red Sox are sure to be happy to be back home for Game 3 of the AL Division Series against the Rays with the best-of-five match with 1-all tie.
Brandon Lowe of Tampa Bay couldn’t mind that either.
Lowe hit .455 (10 for 22) with eight walks at Fenway Park this season and is a career .444 hitter in Boston, where the next two ALDS games will be played. In 16 games in Boston, he’s 24 out of 54 for his highest batting average in any ballpark with six homers, 16 RBIs, and a .551 on-base percentage.
“It’s just something to play in Boston while that (green) monster is over there on the left,” Lowe said. “I don’t jump and I don’t try to do anything special.
“To be honest, it’s one of my favorite places. It’s just a relaxing place for me, ”he said.
WAIT, IS THAT …
A misplaced twin has drawn double takes between the Dodgers and Giants in the NL Division Series.
Taylor Rogers of Minnesota was at Oracle Park to watch his twin brother, Giants rescuer Tyler Rogers, perform in the majors for the first time. Taylor Rogers sat with Tyler’s wife Jenn Rogers, who posted on Instagram that Taylor was getting strange looks from San Francisco believers.
On his postseason debut, Tyler Rogers withdrew his lone batter in the eighth inning of a 4-0 game 1 win.
“It was fun watching people get confused when they see (Taylor) in the stands and think it was (Tyler) lol,” wrote Jenn Rogers.
STOP AND EXIST
To avoid a sweep, the White Sox Dylan Cease will start in Game 3 of the ALDS against Houston.
The Astros won their first two games at home, beating Chicago 15-5, and AL Rookie of the Year candidate Luis Garcia (11-8, 3:30 ERA) will try to win it for them.
Cease joined Carlos Rodón for team leadership in wins while going 13-7 with a 3.91 ERA in 32 starts. Manager Tony La Russa said Rodón could put up a potential Game 4 on Monday after being restricted in the regular season due to shoulder pain and fatigue.
The Pirates have a chance for a third basic trainer after Joey Cora’s sacking.
56-year-old Cora, older brother of Boston manager Alex Cora, had the spot for five seasons. The Pirates announced the move on Saturday, less than a week after finishing 61-101 and most recently at NL Central.
Cora has often been criticized by Pittsburgh fans for aggressively waving runners home. The Pirates were among the major league leaders in outs made on the record.
Cora, a second baseman for most of his 11 years in the major leagues, has also worked with Pittsburgh infielders. The Pirates made only 70 mistakes this season, the fewest in the majors.
