Pitt stops at # 16; Seven wrestlers in nationwide polls; Pre-seeds launched for ACC match

No. 16 Pitt (NWCA Coaches Poll) places seven wrestlers in the national polls. The Panthers regularly ended at (3-4, 1-4 ACC) in 2021. The squad is preparing for the ACC championships in 2021.

In addition, pre-seeds and brackets for the ACC championships in 2021 were released. Three Pitt wrestlers were awarded top seeds for the 2021 ACC Wrestling Championship on Sunday in Raleigh, NC, the conference announced on Tuesday afternoon.

Micky Phillippi (133 pounds), Jake Wentzel (165 pounds) and Nino Bonaccorsi (197 pounds) were each selected as the # 1 seed after the vote by the league’s coaches was taken into account.

Looking ahead, Pitt will have a little more than two weeks off competition before returning to Raleigh, North Carolina for the 2021 ACC Championships being hosted by NC State No. 7 on February 28. Then the Panthers will travel to St. Louis, Missouri, March 18-20, to compete in the 2021 NCAA Division I Wrestling Championship.
