Pittsburgh Chef Enters Nationwide Cooking Contest
McKEES ROCKS, PA – A local chef will compete against a dozen other chefs in a national seafood cooking competition next month.
Jackie Paige from Love Rocks Cafe on Chartiers Avenue will be attending the Great American Seafood Cook-Off 2021 in New Orleans on August 7, 2021. The 13 chefs create and cook in front of a live audience and a nationally celebrated jury.
“This year we are excited to welcome a very talented field of chefs from across the country as we battle it out here in New Orleans to be crowned the next king or queen of American seafood,” said Louisiana Lt. Gov. Billy Nungesser in a press release. “Each chef will show off their local seafood skills to showcase the best seafood dishes.”
Paige has worked intermittently in the restaurant business since she was a teenager; her mother owned a catering company. At her sister’s insistence, Paige attended cookery school and graduated at the age of 47.
Seven months later, Paige started her own catering business and opened a stationary restaurant in 2019. An excerpt of some of his offers:
During the competition, each chef prepares a dish that highlights the use of local seafood, while dining with the live audience, celebrity hosts, Chef Cory Bahr (Food Network Star Finalist, Food Network Chopped! Champion and Former King of Louisiana Seafood ) and KLFY. – TV Gerald Gruenig and “chef ref” chef Michael Brewer, also a former King of Louisiana Seafood, interacts.
Each dish is presented to the jury, who scores points for their presentation, creativity, composition, craftsmanship and taste.
To attend the event, chefs must hold the title of King or Queen of Seafood, or be appointed by their state’s lieutenant governor. Paige was transferred to Pennsylvania Lt. Gov. John Fetterman appointed.
