Pittsburgh mothers flip occasion into promenade night time for space highschool college students – WPXI
PITTSBURGH — A mom quickly turned an event she was planning for her daughter into a prom for a group of her teen’s classmates.
Beautiful gowns and sharp tuxedos were the center of attention at Riverview Park on Monday.
All eyes are on Perry High School students — who are happy to celebrate a day that they didn’t think would happen.
Students say they were notified back in March that prom was canceled.
Katerina Bryan grew her hair out for years just for this day. She is happy to show off her long hair and gown.
“I saw this dress and fell in love with it. I love the gold. It goes nicely with my hair,” she explained.

Bryan and the rest of her classmates are thankful for the parents who made this day possible for them.
Tiffany Williams-Richards worked with another mom to pull everything off.
“Originally, this started off as my daughter’s college reveal party but then we got notified that PPS canceled the prom for Perry. Since we already had the facility, we already had the food, we already had the entertainment setup, we decided to throw the kids a prom,” Williams-Richards said.
The parents received some donations but handled most of the costs on their own.
Seeing everything come together is emotional.
And as they celebrate, they are also thinking about a student they lost to violence.
“One of their classmates was murdered, unfortunately, last month in April, so we are doing a balloon release for him.”
