PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – The Pittsburgh area continues to lose jobs in late spring and summer.

We’re also seeing a decline in the labor force – many gave up looking for new jobs after being laid off during the pandemic.

During a recording on the Sunday Business Page, Jim Futrell of the Allegheny Conference told KDKA Money Editor Jon Delano that the region had regained more than 2/3 of the jobs lost.

“We continue to see an improvement in the economy. The region lost over 200,000 jobs between February and April. As we have seen in much of the country, it was a very severe and sudden economic decline and we slowly came back to it. So far, we’ve restored about 70 percent of the jobs that were lost between February and April, and we’ve seen a steady decline in the unemployment rate, ”said Futrell.

The hospitality and leisure sectors were particularly hard hit, losing more than 26% of their jobs.
