PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – Pittsburgh VA Hospital pays $ 2.75 million to a veteran who had a leg amputated after a mistake by a podiatrist who operated on his foot.

Darwin Gurto went to see a doctor about foot and ankle pain.

The doctor told him he needed an operation that he had in February 2015.

His surgeon told him everything was going well, but a second doctor noticed that he was not healing properly.

Gurto had several other surgeries to resolve the problem, but in the end his leg was amputated below the knee. He sued for damages.
