Pittsburgh Worldwide vacationers really feel trapped as American Airways cancels flights – WPXI
PITTSBURGH – At the height of the summer travel season, American Airlines is forced to cancel nearly 100 flights nationwide every day. And travelers at Pittsburgh International Airport feel the need.
“I don’t expect everything to go 100% smoothly, but I never expected to be kicked by a flight,” said Jeannie Mabery.
Mabery is from Colorado and was visiting a family in the area. Her flight was delayed which resulted in her missing her connection in Dallas.
The airline cites staff shortages, not enough pilots, maintenance issues, bad weather across the country and increasing demand as the reasons for this perfect storm of a problem. On Tuesday alone, the company canceled 130 flights nationwide, according to Flight Aware. 200 more were delayed.
400 flights were canceled over the weekend.
If you haven’t booked your trip yet, expect to feel it in your wallet as ticket prices are expected to keep rising.
