The Las Vegas Raiders “are very interested” in signing free-agent-wide recipient JuJu Smith-Schuster, said John Clayton of 710 ESPN Seattle on Wednesday (h / t Andrew Fillipponi of 93.7 The Fan).
The 2018 Pro Bowler debuts after spending the first four years of its career with the Pittsburgh Steelers. He recorded 831 yards and nine career-level touchdowns in 2020.
In January, the 24-year-old listed Las Vegas among the franchises he considered “good places” (h / t Austin Boyd of Heavy.com).
“Should I just stay in Pittsburgh?” Smith-Schuster said during a Twitch stream via Boyd. “”Packers, raiders, jaguars … the jets. … There are many good places. ”
He later added that “the Raiders are nice”.
Derek Carr was a 2020 mid-of-the-road quarterback with a 4,103 yard pass and nine touchdowns with a degree of completion of 67.3. His preferred wide receiver target, Nelson Agholor (896 yards, eight touchdowns) is one of 20 upcoming Las Vegas free agents.
If Agholor carries on, Hunter Renfrow and Henry Ruggs III will remain at the top of the depth map, both of which can bridge the gap. Still, the Raiders would benefit from Smith-Schuster, who could come cheap after two less-than-elitist seasons with the Steelers.
According to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler (h / t), the New York Jets, which had the second worst passing game in 2020, also reportedly rate Schuster and Agholor Jordan Dajani from CBS Sports).
