Readers’ ballot: Republicans to nominate Meuser as governor in 2022
While the field of candidates for the Pennsylvania Republicans is still forming in the 2022 governor race, PoliticsPA readers believe that a Lucerne County Congressman should be the GOP Party’s nominee for the statewide contest.
With 60,212 votes cast, 35% of PoliticsPA readers say Rep. Dan Meuser (R-Lucerne) should be the Republican Party’s candidate for governor in 2022. Meuser has not submitted an offer for the office, but has been thinking about applying for the office for months.
Charlie Gerow, CEO of Quantum communication and Vice Chairman of the CPAC and Sen. Scott Martin (R-Lancaster) took second and third place respectively. Gerow and Martin both got 15% of the vote, but Gerow got 9,229 votes while Martin got 8,806 votes.
Gerow officially participated in the GOP race in June while Martin launched an exploratory committee last month.
State Sen. Dan Laughlin (R-Erie) came fourth on the poll, garnering 11% of the vote. Laughlin launched an exploratory committee last month.
Jason Richey, an Allegheny County resident and partner with Pittsburgh’s K&L Gates law firm, came in fifth with 9% of the vote. Richey announced his candidacy for office in May.
Former Congressman Lou Barletta, who announced his candidacy for the office in May, took sixth place with 8% of the vote.
State Sen. Doug Mastriano (R-Franklin) came seventh in the poll with 4% of the vote. Mastrian has not officially declared a candidacy for the office but has reportedly been weighing an offer for the nationwide office for months.
Former US attorney Bill McSwain took eighth place in the poll with 1% of the votes. McSwain didn’t officially announce his entry into the race, but did launch a PAC in March, which further fueled speculation about his interest in the statewide office.
DR. Security Response, Montgomery District Commissioner Joe Gale, and former mayor of Corry Jason monn, finished ninth, tenth, and eleventh. Zama got 195 votes while Gale got 116 votes and Monn got 76 votes.
Gale, Monn and Zama have all officially announced their candidacies for the 2022 race.
