Residents sad about unploughed roads after winter storm within the space – CBS Pittsburgh

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – Residents of several streets in Pittsburgh were still waiting for a plow wagon Thursday night, almost a full day after a winter storm threw up to 10 inches of snow in the area.

The heavy and fast snowfall from Wednesday to Thursday created working hours for snow plow and salt truck drivers across the region.

“I think our guys did a pretty good job and are still doing a good job all day,” said Mike Gable, Pittsburgh director of public works.

Although most of the streets in the city had been cleared, a handful of back roads were still covered. People who live on Yoder Street in Greenfield say this is a recurring problem.

“It’s a mess,” said Resident Bill Boehm. “It snows every year. We have to deal with it every year. “

The uncleared snow forced many to stay home all day.

“Unfortunately, due to these circumstances, I couldn’t go to work today,” said Böhm. “It’s not the only hill in the city of Pittsburgh, but it appears to be the last one to be cleaned.”

The few people who tried to climb the steep city hill only ran into problems.

“We tried to go down in a car,” said Dolores Hanna of Yoder Street. “It got stuck. The neighbors had to dig them up. “

Yoder Street wasn’t the only street in town that was still overcast Thursday night. Cars and trucks struggled to navigate Sharon Street in the South Side Slopes.

“I couldn’t get out at all,” said resident Veronica Norman.

She and her long-term neighbors are particularly concerned about clearing the way for emergency vehicles.

“You will never get up here,” said Norman. “You will never get up. It is too hard.”

A spokesman for Pittsburgh Mayor’s office Bill Peduto said crews would be traveling overnight plowing the remaining roads.
