HARRISBURG (KDKA) – Some restaurant owners drove to Harrisburg on Wednesday to convince lawmakers to grant financial relief or lift current restrictions.

During their meetings, they shared the difficulties they faced over the past year due to the pandemic.

They also called for staying open longer and selling alcohol without food.

“We really appreciate that you are working to provide us with financial support. We need this financial support. What we really need, however, is to be open at a level appropriate for the business our people need. You have to go back to work, “said John Longstreet, president of the PA Restaurant and Lodging Association.

The health department was reluctant to lift the restrictions, citing the emergence of new, more contagious COVID-19 variants.
