Salem’s Market Opens Grocery Retailer in Pittsburgh’s Hill District – WPXI
PITTSBURGH – Salem’s Market & Grill, LLC will open a grocery store on the former Shop ‘n Save site at Center Heldman Plaza in Pittsburgh’s Hill District.
The locally owned, family-run company was selected through a community process coordinated with Councilor R. Daniel Lavelle and the Hill Community Development Corporation.
Interested grocery stores and markets competed to occupy the vacant grocery site, and four finalists were selected to present their proposals to the community, which voted on the store to be selected.
Salem’s Market & Grill has been a locally owned minority company for over 40 years, with its original store located on Penn Avenue in the Strip District.
“Salems Market’s location in the Hill District is a tremendous asset for both Salems and the Hill District community,” said Councilor Lavelle. “It gives Salem an opportunity to grow and expand while providing the community with a much-needed grocery store and restaurant. Also, given Salem’s well-established customer base, the new grocery store and restaurant will have significant footfall on Center Avenue, which will help support ongoing efforts to rebuild Center Avenue as a business corridor. “
