South Aspect visitors challenge paused after constructing collapse
Pittsburgh Public Safety is temporarily suspending its South Side traffic calming pilot due to the partial building collapse on East Carson Street. East Carson Street is closed between South 16th and South 17th Streets due to the demolition of 1604 E. Carson St. Check out the full report in the video player above. The upper level of a two-story building was badly damaged in heavy rainfall Thursday night and engineers are concerned about the integrity of the structure and that of the adjacent buildings. A large crane was placed on the road to begin this process. During this time, traffic will be rerouted around this block. Tractors and longer industrial vehicles must be diverted via 10th Street Bridge or Birmingham Bridge. The traffic pilot project carried out on July 30th will not take place for the time being. Officials said some companies in that block will be affected during the demolition. There is no schedule for completion. Officials said this was an evolving situation and public safety will make information available to the public as soon as it becomes available. Public Safety would like to thank the residents, business owners, and visitors of Pittsburgh for their patience and understanding with these last minute changes and the inconvenience it caused.
